Empowering Women at Every Stage: Nurse Julie’s Talk at The Pregnancy Club Event

At House of Glo, we believe in supporting and empowering women at every stage of life, especially during the transformative journey of pregnancy and beyond. Recently, our founder, Nurse Julie, was invited by the incredible founders of The Pregnancy Club and The Pregnancy Gift Company to speak at an enlightening event focusing on empowering pregnant and new mums. Julie shared her expertise on how women can take charge of their intimate health, specifically focusing on vulva and vaginal health, an area that is often overlooked.

Shining a Light on Vulval Health

Julie’s presentation, titled "Let’s Talk Vulvas: Pregnancy, Postpartum & Beyond", aimed to break the silence around vulval health, offering much-needed insight into what happens to your body during pregnancy, postpartum recovery, and beyond.

What Changes During Pregnancy?

Pregnancy brings about many physical changes - and your vulva is no exception. Increased blood volume can lead to swelling, aching, and even darkening. Approximately 1 in 5 women will experience vulval varicosities (varicose veins in the vulva), and an increase in discharge is completely normal.

To help during pregnancy, Julie recommends:

  • Cold compresses to reduce swelling
  • Support garments to help manage pressure
  • Avoid all scented washes and avoid cleansing as the vulva as this is self cleaning and cleansers can disrupt the ph which leads to more symptoms.

The Post-Birth Reality: What No One Told You

Postpartum recovery can be a challenging time, with 85% of vaginal births causing perineal trauma. Julie shared that 70% of women require stitches following childbirth, and even small grazes can result in ongoing discomfort, itching, and numbness.

The truth? Full recovery often takes 6 months or more, not just the typical 6-week mark.

To promote healing, Julie recommends:

  • Pelvic floor physiotherapy to rebuild strength
  • Scar massage for smoother recovery
  • Ongoing vulval care, because your body deserves attention too.

The Forgotten Vulva: What Happens After Birth

By the 3-6 month mark postpartum, many women experience painful sex, dryness, itching, or numbness. Yet, so many suffer in silence, too self-conscious to reach out for help. Julie emphasised that common does not mean normal - if you’re experiencing any discomfort, you don’t have to suffer quietly.

Solutions for Postpartum Intimate Health

Julie introduced Femme Glo, a non-invasive, medically led treatment protocol at House of Glo designed to restore and rejuvenate the vulva and vaginal area. Femme Glo combines:

  • Radiofrequency (RF) for tissue repair and skin tightening
  • Hyaluronic Acid-based therapy (Neauvia Rose) for hydration and comfort
  • EU-backed innovation, ensuring safe, effective results.

Femme Glo focuses on healing, comfort, and empowerment, offering a solution that feels restorative, not clinical. Healing should feel good, not just tolerable.
