At House of Glo, we believe in supporting and empowering women at every stage of life, especially during the transformative journey of pregnancy and beyond. Recently, our founder, Nurse Julie, was invited by the incredible founders of The Pregnancy Club and The Pregnancy Gift Company to speak at an enlightening event focusing on empowering pregnant and new mums. Julie shared her expertise on how women can take charge of their intimate health, specifically focusing on vulva and vaginal health, an area that is often overlooked.
Julie’s presentation, titled "Let’s Talk Vulvas: Pregnancy, Postpartum & Beyond", aimed to break the silence around vulval health, offering much-needed insight into what happens to your body during pregnancy, postpartum recovery, and beyond.
Pregnancy brings about many physical changes - and your vulva is no exception. Increased blood volume can lead to swelling, aching, and even darkening. Approximately 1 in 5 women will experience vulval varicosities (varicose veins in the vulva), and an increase in discharge is completely normal.
To help during pregnancy, Julie recommends:
Postpartum recovery can be a challenging time, with 85% of vaginal births causing perineal trauma. Julie shared that 70% of women require stitches following childbirth, and even small grazes can result in ongoing discomfort, itching, and numbness.
The truth? Full recovery often takes 6 months or more, not just the typical 6-week mark.
To promote healing, Julie recommends:
By the 3-6 month mark postpartum, many women experience painful sex, dryness, itching, or numbness. Yet, so many suffer in silence, too self-conscious to reach out for help. Julie emphasised that common does not mean normal - if you’re experiencing any discomfort, you don’t have to suffer quietly.
Julie introduced Femme Glo, a non-invasive, medically led treatment protocol at House of Glo designed to restore and rejuvenate the vulva and vaginal area. Femme Glo combines:
Femme Glo focuses on healing, comfort, and empowerment, offering a solution that feels restorative, not clinical. Healing should feel good, not just tolerable.
Julie’s message to everyone in attendance was clear: Don’t suffer in silence. Women need to feel empowered to talk about vulval health, whether they are pregnant, postpartum, or beyond. Noticing changes in your body and addressing them is the first step to feeling comfortable, confident, and cared for. At House of Glo, we’re here to guide you every step of the way.
